Welcome to the University of Arizona String Project!
The University of Arizona String Project is dedicated to inspiring creativity, fostering lifelong musical engagement, and building vibrant learning communities while preparing the next generation of music educators. Through a variety of community-based programs, UASP provides accessible, high-quality music education experiences for participants across the Tucson community. Instruction is provided by University of Arizona students who receiving professional development and practical teaching experience in music education. Instructors are mentored and supervised by university faculty and experienced educators.
The UA String Project family of programs includes:
- Youth Strings – Our signature program, open to 2nd–12th grade students seeking instruction on bowed string instruments through private lessons, ensemble rehearsals, solo recitals, and orchestra concerts.
- Mariachi Ensemble – An opportunity for students to engage with the rich traditions of mariachi music through ensemble-based instruction and performance.
- New Horizons – String ensembles designed for amateur, returning, and developing adult musicians who wish to learn, grow, and make music in a supportive community setting.
- Together in Music – An experiential music class for young children and their caregivers that encourages musical exploration, creativity, and joyful participation.
Programs run in alignment with the UA academic calendar, with many activities taking place at the University of Arizona School of Music. The University of Arizona String Project is Directed by Dr. Kelsey Nussbaum.
Through the incredible generosity of a community donor, the UA String Project Endowment helps ensure that financial circumstances are not a barrier to participation, enabling learners of all ages and backgrounds to experience the transformative power of music.
